Solid Spruce top and Mahogany back/sides are a very common combination. Mahogany used as a back/sides wood to compliment the brighter sounding Solid Spruce top. Mahogany is good at mellowing out the brightness and add some warmth. It also soften the highs and reduce the overtones.
